downstream 2
Riverward 2 - Sculptures on Clara-Zetkin-Weg was an exhibition from March 2012 to March 2013 in Hanover . Sculptures by eleven artists line the Clara-Zetkin-Weg along the Leine . The art in public space was installed along the pedestrian and cycle path that leads from Friedrichswall towards Maschsee .
history
Upstream 2005 in Hemmingen
As early as 2005, an open-air exhibition was held in the floodplains of the Leine around Hemmingen under the title “Riverward”, which presented temporary sculptures. The idea was to integrate art into nature and thereby create a connection between the viewer and the landscape .
Riverward 2 in Hanover
The connecting element of the follow-up project from “riverwards” is the leash. The exhibits have to do with the flowing material water in various ways , sometimes only at second glance. So three of the types of rock used were created by deposits in the water, for example
- the red Weser sandstone .
- The Thüster limestone formed in the sea basin near Thüste in southern Lower Saxony .
- The Obernkirchen sandstone was created around 140 million years ago.
The exhibition was opened on March 22nd, 2012, International Water Day , by Region President Hauke Jagau and Hanover's Mayor Regine Kramarek. Co-initiator Michael Zwingmann described the intention of the exhibition as follows:
“The Sculpture Path is an offer to engage with art within the nature created by man. The green area on Clara-Zetkin-Weg is to be transformed from a passageway into a place where one would like to be with the artistic accentuation ...
The approach of our project is to understand in its original sense. The freely accessible sculptures can be experienced haptically differently than in a museum . "
In contrast to the sculpture mile between Königsworther Platz and Friedrichswall, which can be perceived as you drive past and is created from a distance, the aim of riverside 2 is to move the viewer to “discover slowness”.
At the same time as the vernissage , the 2012 program of the Hannover Garden Region began under the motto “Water Games”, under which events will be organized on around 60 dates in 16 cities and towns in the region.
