Flying Clipper - Dream Trip under White Sails is a German documentary film from 1962 by Hermann Leitner and Rudolf Nussgruber .

action

The travel film, shot in 1961 and 1962, was made during a trip with an international crew on the title-giving Swedish sailing training ship, which crossed the Mediterranean with an international crew and docked in numerous ports. Travel destinations included Seville and Nazaré (Iberian Peninsula), the Côte d'Azur with Monaco, the island of Capri and Naples (Italy), Dubrovnik (Yugoslavia), the Greek coastal regions to the Middle East with Beirut (Lebanon) and Port Said ( Egypt). Excursions to Abu Simbel and the pyramids followed. Encounters with highnesses like Begum Aga Khan III. and the later King Constantine II of Greece as well as impressions of a pyramid competition, a camel fight and the maneuver of an aircraft carrier round off this two and a half hour tall ship trip.

Production notes

Flying Clipper - a dream trip under white sails was created in 1961/62 on the 600 ton three-masted barque of the same name. The premiere took place on December 19, 1962 in Munich. Two days later the travel film could also be seen in Austria for the first time.

For Austria's former star director Karl Hartl , who took on the artistic design and made the commentary, this was his last film work. Georg M. Reuther took over the production management, Claus Hardt the production management. The English version had Burl Ives as the narrator.

In the Monaco episode, the princely couple Rainier and Gracia Patricia and racing driver Graham Hill (as part of a race) were briefly seen.

Flying Clipper - dream trip under white sails was the first full-length German cinema film in 70 mm format.

reception

“The journey of a Swedish sailing training ship with an international crew through the Mediterranean. Colorful cinematic travel brochure. "

Paimann's film lists found: “Based on the successful model, a sea voyage show spun on, which only conveys the lasting impressions in its second part; in, this time without a widened angle of view, deeply sharp, initially increasingly brilliant wide-color film technology. "
