The Focke-Wulf Fw 57 was the prototype of a destroyer aircraft from the Focke-Wulf aircraft factory. Only three of the Fw 57 (designated as V1, V2 and V3) were produced in 1936.

development

The Fw 57 was Focke-Wulf's suggestion for the "Combat Destroyer" advertised in 1934, under which the Reich Aviation Ministry (RLM) envisioned a multi-purpose fighter that could be used as a fighter and tactical bomber . Developments in competition with the Fw 57 were the Hs 124 from Henschel and the Bf 110 from Messerschmitt. Focke-Wulf tried to implement all the requirements of the RLM in an airplane. The Fw 57 was underpowered with two Daimler-Benz DB 600A V12 engines and was difficult to fly. The Bf 110 finally won the tender, while the Fw 57 had been out of the running since November 1935. Regardless of this, the three prototypes were still built and tested in 1936.

In addition to the pilot, two gunners were provided for the front and rear machine guns as a crew.
