The Focke-Wulf Fw 186 was a two-seat gyroplane in composite construction, which was developed by Erhardt Kosel in 1937/1938 on the basis of the gyroplane Cierva C.30 built under license by Focke-Wulf . A conventional gyroplane with a 12-meter rotor, powered by an Argus As 10  C (240 hp) , was created using the Fw-56 fuselage, which was extended to 8.20 m . The first flight of the prototype took place on July 27, 1938. Since the flight characteristics of a second machine built were not convincing either, development was discontinued in 1939.

As a rival design to the Fieseler Fi 156 , the Fw 186 was intended as a STOL aircraft.
