The Focke-Wulf S 1 was a training aircraft made by the German manufacturer Focke-Wulf .
history
The Focke-Wulf-S 1 was created in 1925 as a direct successor to the Focke-Wulf A 7 . In 1926 it became the S 1a, five of which were built, and later developed into the Focke-Wulf S 2 , which had identical dimensions, although the wing of the S 2 was now arranged on struts above the heads of the pilots. The S 2 had its maiden flight on November 30, 1927 with pilot Edzard on board. The machines did not achieve economic success, which was due to the poor view of the ground from the cockpit and the strong competition from Klemm and Raab-Katzenstein .
On February 6, 1927, Willi Steinkrauss landed the S1 with the registration number D-790 as the first in winter on the deeply snow-covered Brocken .
construction
The S 1 was a wooden shoulder wing without struts and a tombstone with a Zanonia wing. The seats were arranged next to each other in the center of gravity. A Siemens & Halske Sh 5 radial engine with 63 kW was used as the drive for the S 1a , and an example called the S 1b was given a Junkers L 1a with 63 kW. A Sh 11 with 60 kW power was used for the S 2, which increased the cruising speed of the S 2 to 135 km / h.
