Folques is a place and a municipality in Portugal .

history

The Bishop of Coimbra allowed the monastery of Arganil, founded in 1086, to move to Folques in 1190, which subsequently developed into a locality and received its first simple city rights in 1225, which were expanded in 1237. The Augustinian monastery remained of regional importance.

In 1595 Pope Clement III. the connection of the monastery to the monastery of Santa Cruz in Coimbra . The monastery and with it the town of Folques continued to lose importance until the monastery was dissolved with the dissolution of all religious orders after the liberal Miguelistenkrieg in 1834. Folques then remained an independent municipality in the Arganil district.
