The motor ferry Fontainebleau is a car ferry on Lake Constance .

history

On January 5, 1969, the Konstanz public utility awarded the contract to the Bodan shipyard in Kressbronn to build a new ferry . It was the eighth ferry of the Stadtwerke Konstanz and the fourth ferry of the "Thurgau class". She is slightly larger than her sister ships Thurgau , Hegau and Fritz Arnold .

The launch took place on June 26, 1970. On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the town twinning between Constance and Fontainebleau , the ferry was given the name of the French twin town. The ship was christened by the wife of the French Mayor Seramy.

The Fontainebleau began its regular service on the Konstanz-Meersburg ferry route on July 3, 1970, replacing the Konstanz from 1930 . Since then, the Fontainebleau has been in service without any major interruptions. At times she was chartered out on special occasions or for special tasks. So she served z. B. in November 2007 as a cable laying ship , when a fiber optic cable was laid between Friedrichshafen and Konstanz . The construction costs for the ferry amounted to 3,188,353 DM.

There were no special incidents with the Fontainebleau , nor was it involved in any accidents worth mentioning. After 37 years of service it was foreseeable that extensive repairs would be expected in the near future. Since no modernizations were carried out during the entire operating time, the need was correspondingly great. After a cost estimate, it was decided to commission a new ferry based on the Tábor model and then to retire the Fontainebleau .

However, the double-ended ferry after baptism was Lodi on May 8, 2010 announced that they are not as originally planned, the Fontainebleau , but equipped only in 2003 at a cost of over 600,000 euros with new low-emission engines Fritz Arnold on the ferry Konstanz-Meersburg replace would.

Technical features

The ship was originally put into service with a width of 12.65 meters. In adaptation to a modernized bridge system, it was widened to 13.40 meters. The lane width on board is 9.70 meters and the usable height above the lane is 4.20 meters. The measured total height of the ferry is given as 13.20.
