history

Forchheim is located on a former Roman military road , so it is probably much older than the first known documentary mention from 1086 says.

In it, Emperor Heinrich V gave the county “Vorechheim” to the Bishop of Speyer in a document . So the village must have already existed then.

The place name Forchheim - Heim unter den Föhren - as well as various sources indicate a settlement in the 6th century by the Franks . This is confirmed by grave finds with a silver coin minted in Lombardy between 527 and 565 .

In 1219 Margrave Hermann V. von Baden Forchheim was given a fiefdom.

Forchheim was a farming community. Only two craftsmen - bricklayer and blacksmith - are known from the time of the Thirty Years' War . That later changed, but agriculture continued to be important.

In 1927 the tobacco research institute was founded with Paul Koenig as its first director (today a branch of the Agricultural Technology Center Augustenberg ), and in 1932 the “State Fattening Testing Institute”.

Forchheim experienced an enormous upswing after the Second World War , especially as a residential community. Since then, the number of inhabitants has almost tripled to over 9,000.

Forchheim was the occasion of municipal reform on 1 January 1975 Mörsch and Neuburgweier to the municipality Rheinstetten summarizes the 2000 town rights got.
