The Franconian red wine hiking trail, called the Franconian red wine hiking trail by the initiators , is a regional hiking trail that leads through red wine growing areas in the Main Valley between Spessart and Odenwald . It was created in 1990 and is around 79 kilometers long. Geographically, the region belongs to the Bavarian Lower Main in Lower Franconia and is also known as Churfranken .

The route begins at the "Lützeltaler Berg", a red wine location in Großwallstadt , leads via Großostheim (district of Aschaffenburg), Obernburg , Elsenfeld , Erlenbach , Klingenberg , Großheubach , Miltenberg and ends in Bürgstadt , where the Erf flows into the Main . In almost all of these places there are hacker's taverns that are open irregularly.

The area is the most important red wine-growing area in Franconia due to the special microclimate and the peculiarities of the Franconian red sandstone soil . There are 14 registered vineyards with a total of 180 hectares of vineyards in eight vineyards in the Miltenberg district :

  • Bürgstadter Mainhölle
  • Centgrafenberg
  • Dorfprozeltener Predigtstuhl
  • Einsiedel
  • Erlenbacher Hochberg
  • Großheubacher Bischofsberg
  • Großwallstadter Lützeltaler Berg
  • Jesuit Mountain
  • Johannisberg
  • Klingenberger Schlossberg
  • Monastery garden (Engelberg Monastery only)
  • Miltenberger stone brooders
  • Rücker Schalk

Wine is only grown sporadically in nine other locations.

The Franconian red wine hiking trail also leads through a community in the district of Aschaffenburg , Großostheim with the vineyards Heiligenthal, Reischklingenberg and Harstell.
