The members of the association define their region as the area along the Main between Spessart and Odenwald , on the south and west flanks of the Mainviereck , from Faulbach to Großostheim. With the exception of Großostheim ( Aschaffenburg district ), all of the towns involved are in the Miltenberg district .

Naming

Großheubach town hall with coat of arms and inscription "CHVRFVRST"

With the establishment of the association from the already existing regional marketing association "Mainland Miltenberg", the name Churfranken was created. It is an artificial name that consists of two parts: Chur and Franconia. Most of the area belonged to the Electorate of Mainz until 1803 ( Reichsdeputationshauptschluss ) , still recognizable from many of the local coats of arms with the Mainz wheel . There were the spiritual electoral principalities , abbreviated Kurmainz , Kurköln and Kurtrier , but never an Electoral Franconia. The prefix Chur in the new word creation Chur  franken takes up the spelling used in earlier centuries, such as B. is occupied for " Chvrfvrst ". Franconia was added to this in order to locate the region in Franconia, Lower Franconia and in the Franconian wine-growing region.

activities

Information sign (hiking trail)

The name Churfranken now stands for a number of tourist attractions and products, such as the numerous hiking and biking trails such as the Franconian red wine hiking trail , for the "Häcken" ( wine taverns of individual winemakers, open at certain times of the year), for "Churfränkisches Theater “Like the Clingenburg Festival or the Theater Days on the Mildenburg . The multi-purpose hall in Miltenberg used for cultural events is now called Churfranken Halle and is signposted as such in the town. The Churfranken Gourmet Festival, which takes place annually in different locations, is also typical of the brand name's intention .

At the beginning of 2017, the first concert of the Churfränkische Philharmonie took place, which was created through the merger of the Erlenbach and Obernburg symphony orchestras .

In the meantime, an information board with the inscription “Miltenberg in Churfranken” has been attached to the federal motorway 3 .
