Frédéric Matys Thursz

Frédéric Matys Thursz (born July 7, 1930 in Casablanca , † July 4, 1992 in Cologne ) was a Moroccan - American monochrome painter .

life and work

Frédéric Matys Thursz was born in Casablanca and grew up there until he was eleven. In 1941 his family moved to the USA. Frédéric Matys Thursz studied at Queens College, City University of New York and Columbia University . He was a professor at the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture . His third marriage was to Nina Lünenborg Thursz.

His large-format monochrome paintings are known, especially the Elegia Judaica series , which comprises a total of eight paintings, and the Blood Paintings .
