Life

François de Blanchefort de Créquy is the son of Charles I de Créquy , Prince de Poix, 2nd Duc de Lesdiguières, Pair de France and Marshal of France , and Madeleine de Bonne, daughter of François de Bonne, duc de Lesdiguières , Pair de France, the last connétable in France , from his marriage to Claudine Bérenger. He was Comte de Canaples , then Comte de Sault , Seigneur d'Agoult, de Vesc, de Montlaur, et de Montauban, and from March 17, 1638 3rd Duc de Lesdiguières, Pair de France.

On May 31, 1605, his father, who had been Colonel of the Régiment de Créquy until then , took over the command of the Régiment des Gardes françaises and left François, then Comte de Canaples, the infantry regiment, which he took over on April 24, 1610. From 1611 François was referred to as Comte de Sault and the regiment as Régiment de Sault. François de Blanchefort remained chief of the regiment until his son François-Emmanuel de Bonne de Créquy took it over on November 10, 1665. During this time, the regiment took the Mantuan War of Succession and the French-Spanish war in part

On May 14, 1633 François de Bonne de Créquy was accepted into the Order of the Holy Spirit . At the death of his father on March 17, 1638 he was Lieutenant-général , on July 3, 1642 Governor of the Dauphiné . He held this office for 34 years.

Construction activity

He continued the expansion of the fortifications of Grenoble and gave the part his name, the construction of which began in 1639, but had to be stopped in 1640 due to lack of money. The work on the Enceinte Créqui was continued from 1670 to 1675 and completed with the construction of the Porte Créqui.

After the two heavy Isère floods of November 14th and 30th, 1651, he had the damaged bridges rebuilt, today's Passerelle Saint-Laurent and today's Pont Marius-Gontaud , which his grandfather started as a stone bridge in 1621 and completed in 1671 . In 1675 he began the Drac sewer system within Grenoble, which was completed in 1686 (now called Canal Jourdan).
