Francesco Anzani

Francesco Anzani (born November 11, 1809 in Alzate Brianza , † July 5, 1848 in Genoa ) was an Italian officer and freedom fighter.

Life

The year in which the young, liberal -minded Anzani fought alongside the Greeks for their independence is still unknown. On his return home, he studied mathematics in Pavia , dropped out and took part in the June fights in Paris in 1832 .

The liberals fought in Porto against the absolutist rule. Michael I. Anzani went from Paris to northern Portugal and fought on the side of the liberals against the monarchy in the Miguelistenkrieg . As captain of a foreign legion, Anzani then fought in Spain against the Carlist pretender to the throne Don Carlos V from the house of Bourbon-Anjou and was wounded.

During his repatriation , Anzani was handed over to the Austrians immediately after landing in Genoa . He was able to emigrate to South America and met Garibaldi in Rio Grande do Sul . The acquaintance grew into a lasting friendship in neighboring Uruguay . Garibaldi put the fighter in charge of his Italian legion . Anzani competed against Oribe in Uruguay .

From Pius IX. Amnestied in 1846, the freedom fighters Garibaldi, Medici and Anzani, who was ill with tuberculosis , returned home in 1848. Francesco Anzani landed in Genoa on June 21 and died two weeks later with his old friend, the painter Gaetano Gallino .
