Francesco Meriano (born September 21, 1896 in Turin , † May 21, 1934 in Kabul ) was a futuristic artist, Italian ambassador , fascist writer, journalist and politician.

Life

Francesco Meriano was the son of Carolina Capello and Ernesto Meriano. With Bino Binazzi (born November 12, 1878 in Figline Valdarno, † May 1, 1930 in Prato) he published the avant-garde magazine La Brigata in Bologna from June 1916 to 1920 . From 1916 to 1920 he worked with Tristan Tzara , whom he admired, on Relationes épistolaires .

From 1921 to 1923 he was editor of the Il Popolo d'Italia founded by Benito Mussolini . In 1923 he was deputy director of Il Resto del Carlino in Bologna and published with Dino Grandi Quaderni Imperia . In 1927 Meriano entered Italy's foreign service. In 1928 he became consul general in Odessa . From June 24, 1929 to September 26, 1930, he was envoy in Luxembourg . From 1931 to mid-1932 he was consul in Rabat , where he published L'Ala Italiana , (The Italian Wing), a conservative fortnightly magazine. In 1932, with increasing symptoms of illness, he was taken to a sanatorium in Abetina Vallesana in the province of Sondrio , where he spent two months in hospital from August 1932. In 1933 he negotiated in Split against the background of territorial conflicts about the promotion of Italian culture in Dalmatia . In 1934 he was sent to Kabul as Ministre plénipotentiaire , where he died of an illness. He is buried in the Settignano cemetery.
