Francesco de Los Rios

Francesco de Los Rios , full name: Francesco Gutierez Marchese de Los Rios (* 1689 in Brussels , † March 20, 1775 in Alto , Piedmont ) was a count and field marshal of the Imperial Army .

Life

Francesco de Los Rios was born in Brussels, in what was then the Spanish Netherlands , which became the Austrian Netherlands in 1714 . He came from a family of Spanish counts and his nobility was recognized in Austria during this change of rule. He joined the Imperial Imperial Army and on January 10, 1718 was appointed as the fortress commander of Ghent .

On October 5, 1723, Francesco de Los Rios was promoted to field marshal lieutenant . In 1725 soldiers from the Austrian Netherlands formed what would later become the 9th Austrian Infantry Regiment, and the officer was appointed its first owner . He held this position for 50 years, until his death.

De Los Rios became Feldzeugmeister on March 15, 1735 and rose to Imperial Field Marshal on October 5, 1745. He also acted as governor of the city of Alto in Italy, where he died in 1775.
Occasionally he is referred to as the Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece , but his name does not appear on the list of members kept by the Order.

family

Francesco de Los Rios was married to Countess Ernestina von Henn. With her he had at least two sons.

1. Franz de Los Rios (1725–1772), imperial field marshal lieutenant, Maria Theresa knight and commander of his father's regiment.

2. Thomas de Los Rios († 1743), lieutenant colonel and since 1742 deputy commander of his father's regiment. This garrisoned in the autumn of 1743 in Worms or Frankenthal and he apparently died of wounds that he had previously sustained in the battle of Dettingen . He was buried in the garrison church of Mannheim , which no longer exists today , and his grave inscription was handed down to us by the regional historian Johann Franz Capellini von Wickenburg in the collection Thesaurus Palatinus .
