Francis Micallef

Francis George Adeodatus Micallef OCD (born December 17, 1928 in Birkirkara , Malta; † January 3, 2018 ibid) was a Maltese religious and Vicar Apostolic of Kuwait .

Life

Francis Micallef, son of the fisherman George and Marianna Micallef, joined the order of the Discalced Carmelites in 1947 , made his profession on October 15, 1951 and was ordained a priest on May 9, 1954 . After studying in Rome, he returned to Malta and taught moral theology. He was also superior, novice master and provincial of his order in Malta. From 1979 to 1981 he was rector of the Pontifical Faculty Teresianum in Rome.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on November 5, 1981 Vicar Apostolic of Kuwait and Titular Bishop of Tinis in Proconsulari . The Pope personally donated him episcopal ordination on January 6, 1982 ; Co -consecrators were Archbishop Eduardo Martínez Somalo , substitute for the State Secretariat , and Archbishop Lucas Moreira Neves OP , Secretary of the Congregation for Bishops . Micallef's episcopal motto was: "Magnus deus noster". On July 14, 2005, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
