Francis McNeirny (born April 25, 1828 in New York City , USA , † January 2, 1894 in Albany ) was Bishop of Albany .

Life

Francis McNeirny attended the Collège de Montréal from 1841 to 1849 . McNeirny then studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the Grand seminary of Montreal . He received on 17 August 1854 the Archbishop of New York , John Joseph Hughes , the sacrament of Holy Orders .

Francis McNeirny became curate of St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City, ceremonial and private secretary to Archbishop John Joseph Hughes. In 1857 he became Chancellor of the Archdiocese of New York and Pastor of the Parish of St. Mary in Rondout .

On December 22, 1871, Pope Pius IX appointed him . the titular bishop of Rhesaina and ordered him to Coadjutor Bishop of Albany. The Archbishop of New York, John McCloskey , donated him episcopal ordination on April 21, 1872 in St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Portland , David William Bacon , and the Bishop of Brooklyn , John Loughlin .

Francis McNeirny became Bishop of Albany on October 12, 1877, succeeding the resigned John Joseph Conroy .
