Franck Lavaud (born February 16, 1903 in Jérémie , † late 1986 in Paris ) was a Haitian general , politician and President of Haiti .

biography

Franck Lavaud, who was in the first class of military academy graduates , was promoted to lieutenant in 1929 . In 1944 he was President Elie Lescot to Colonel ( Colonel transported) and the Chief of Staff of the Guard and thereby supreme commander of the army of Haiti ( Forces Armées d'Haïti appointed).

As such, he became the highest ranking officer after the overthrow of President Lescot on January 11, 1946, as chairman of the Military Executive Council and thus President of Haiti . In addition to him, the Executive Council also included the two Colonels Antoine Levelt and Paul Eugène Magloire . He held this office until August 16, 1946 and then passed power to Dumarsais Estimé .

After Estimé was overthrown on May 10, 1950, to which Lavaud made a significant contribution, he again took over the chairmanship of the government junta as commander-in-chief of the armed forces and was again President of Haiti. After the presidential elections of October 1950, he then formally handed over this office on December 6, 1950 to the election winner Paul Eugène Magloire. A fortnight later, on December 20, 1950, he was retired from military service.

In May 1951 he was sent to France as a diplomat for a short time , where he later settled and died in 1986.
