Frank Bochow

Frank Bochow (born August 12, 1937 in Dresden ; † April 10, 2012 in Berlin ) was a German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador to Portugal .

Life

Bochow was a son of the communist resistance fighter Herbert Bochow, who was executed by the National Socialists in Plötzensee in 1942 . From 1955 to 1961 he studied political science at the Institute for International Relations in Moscow , graduating with a degree in political science . From 1961 he held leading positions in the Central Council of the FDJ and was from 1963 to 1965 representative of the FDJ in the WBDJ in Budapest , from 1965 to 1976 he was secretary for international relations in the Central Council of the FDJ.

From 1976 Bochow worked in the Western Europe department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR and was deployed as ambassador in Lisbon from 1977 to 1982 . From 1982 to 1989 Bochow worked on the federal board of the FDGB as secretary for international connections. From 1986 to 1989 he was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR and deputy chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

From 1984 to 1989 he was Vice President of the Peace Council of the GDR and from 1986 to 1989 a member of the General Council and the Office of the World Trade Union Confederation .

After 1990 Bochow worked as a tour guide for a travel agency.

Bochow had been a member of the FDGB since 1955 and a member of the SED since 1956.
