Frank Perry (musician)

Frank Perry (born June 25, 1948 in Hampstead , London ) is a British percussion musician who first worked in blues rock and then in free improvisation music and now primarily plays meditation music.

Perry had since 1964 self-taught as a drummer worked, first in the rhythm-and-blues band Abstract sound ; since 1966 he played Chicago blues with the Black Cat Bones , to which Paul Kossoff belonged, and who accompanied musicians like champion Jack Dupree and Eddie Boyd in the London Marquee Club . For a short time he also belonged to Henry Cow during the formation phase .

In 1968 he played with Evan Parker and Derek Bailey in the trio he led, with Parker also in Alan Davie's formations , with Bailey in his group and later in the company . Since 1968, he developed his solo programs for which he his drums to gongs , wooden blocks , bowls , cymbals and even invented overtones enriched instruments with prolonged vibration. He has played solo concerts at the Tate Gallery , Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club and numerous universities and colleges in England and Brussels. In the Balance group he performed with guitarist Ian Brighton and cellist Colin Wood, and later with Phil Wachsmann and Radu Malfatti . During the 1970s he was involved in several Keith Tippett projects ( Centipede , Ovary Lodge, Ark) , including Gary Windo , Chris McGregor and Mongezi Feza .

Parallel to his solo concerts, he has led his own groups since the late 1970s, some of which consisted of overtone singers. He also worked with Brian Eno (New & Rediscovered Musical Instruments: Obscure No. 4) , David Sykes , Paul Horn ( Inside the Magic of Findhorn ), Tim Wheater (Heartland) and David Sylvain (Ember Glance, Approaching Silence) . He wrote the music for the film Ten Bulls (2005) by Kim Bour .
