Frank Schwabe (born November 12, 1970 in Waltrop ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and a member of the German Bundestag .

Life and work

Frank Schwabe was born in Waltrop and grew up in Castrop-Rauxel. After graduating from Ernst-Barlach-Gymnasium in Castrop-Rauxel in 1990 , Schwabe did his military service in Pinneberg, Delmenhorst and Goch. He then took up a degree in economics in Osnabrück , then switched to the University of Essen to study land management, history , political science and sociology , without however finishing one of the courses with a degree. From 2000 he was initially employed in the office of a member of the Bundestag and from 2003 to 2004 for a member of the European Parliament.

Political party

Schwabe joined the SPD in 1991, was chairman of the SPD city association Castrop-Rauxel from 2002 to 2010 and has been chairman of the SPD district association Recklinghausen since 2010. From 2002 until its dissolution, he was a member of the Federal Party Council of the SPD. Since then he has been a member of the party convention.

Frank Schwabe is a member of the parliamentary left and spokesman for the SPD “think tank”.

Schwabe was a member of the district council of the Recklinghausen district from 2004 to 2005 and was councilor of the city of Castrop-Rauxel from 2004 to 2012 .

In the 2005 Bundestag election , Frank Schwabe succeeded Jochen Welt with 55.7% of all first votes as the directly elected member of the constituency of Recklinghausen I ( Recklinghausen , Castrop-Rauxel, Waltrop) in the Bundestag.

In the Bundestag , Schwabe is a full member of the Committee on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid and the Committee on the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety , as well as a deputy member of the Committee on Economic Affairs and Energy .

Schwabe is the group's spokesman for human rights and humanitarian aid. As a reporter for climate policy in the SPD parliamentary group, he is responsible for the politically effective implementation of measures against climate change as part of his committee work. He is a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and deputy head of the German delegation.

As a member of the German-South American and German-Central American parliamentary groups, Latin America is one of the focal points of his parliamentary work. In addition, he is a member and deputy chairman of the parliamentary group for the English and Portuguese speaking countries of West and Central Africa. Schwabe is Vice President of the environmental organization Globe International . In January 2019, he and four other MPs were guests on a Sea Watch ship in the Mediterranean.

Voluntary and social engagement

Frank Schwabe is involved in numerous local and supraregional initiatives, for example the German-Greek-Turkish town twinning association of his constituency town Castrop-Rauxel with Trikala and Zonguldak , the Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany , the workers' welfare and the IG Bergbau, Chemie, Energie .

Schwabe's Wikipedia article has been changed more often and the note that he has not graduated in any of his subjects has been removed. After researching the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung , Schwabe then admitted that his office “took care” of the repayment.
