Franz Doll (artist)

Franz Doll (born April 4, 1899 in Munich ; † August 15, 1982 ibid) was a German painter , draftsman and graphic artist .

Before the First World War , Doll studied at the arts and crafts school in Munich . In 1919 he continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Hugo von Habermann and Carl Johann Becker-Gundahl . From 1938 to 1947 he was a professor at the Düsseldorf Art Academy .

In 1928 he was awarded the City of Munich Art Prize, the Albrecht Dürer Prize of Nuremberg in 1930 and the Goethe Medal in 1940 . Franz Doll had been a member of the Munich New Secession since 1930 and, from 1946, of its successor, the Neue Gruppe, and a founding member of the Association for Original Etching . Franz Doll was a member of the artist association 7 Munich painters . In addition to Doll, this artists' association also included Albert Burkart , Günther Graßmann , Wilhelm Maxon , Otto Nückel , Walter Schulz-Matan and Karl Zerbe , who lived in Munich . The association existed between 1930 and 1937.

In 1938 and 1943 he took part in the Great German Art Exhibitions in Munich.

Franz Doll specialized in portraiture and landscapes. He created numerous portraits of well-known personalities. Works by the artist are in the State Graphic Collection in Munich .
