Franz Eduard Kühnel

Franz Eduard Kühnel (born May 11, 1942 in Vienna ; † July 19, 2019 there ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and former professional officer. From 2003 to 2010 he was a member of the Austrian Federal Council .

education and profession

Kühnel attended elementary school between 1948 and 1952 and then switched to a secondary school between 1952 and 1953 . From 1953 he continued his education at a secondary school, which he completed in 1960 with the Matura . He did his military service from 1960 to 1961 and graduated from the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt between 1961 and 1964 . In 1964 he was retired as a lieutenant in the armored force . He subsequently served as a tank infantry in Götzendorf from 1964 to 1969 and then attended the National Defense Academy from 1969 to 1970 , after which he was employed by the Federal Ministry of National Defense between 1970 and 1981 . In addition, from 1965 he studied law and economics at the University of Vienna , where he obtained the academic title Mag. Iur. received and in 1972 Dr. iur. PhD . Professionally, he continued his career between 1981 and 1991 at the Army News Office and was most recently head of the supplementary system in the Federal Ministry for National Defense between 1992 and 2002, where he was deputy section head from 1994. politics

From 1983 Kühnel became a district councilor of the Austrian People's Party in the 1st district of Vienna's Inner City and was club chairman of the ÖVP district council from 1996 to 2004. Within the party, he worked between 1988 and 1997 as district chairman of the ÖAAB Vienna-Innere Stadt and from 1997 as district party chairman of the ÖVP Innere Stadt. He also represented the Austrian People's Party from March 5, 2003 to November 24, 2010 in the Federal Council and from 2003 to 2010 held the function of a folder . From 2008 he was also a member of the Austrian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe .
