Franz Goebel

Franz Goebel OFMCap (born October 1, 1881 in Valwig , † December 10, 1973 in Stühlingen , Baden ) was a Roman Catholic religious (Capuchin), author , spiritual and theologian .

Life

Franz Goebel was prepared for attending a grammar school by his pastor Friedrich Gottlieb Wehn ​​during his primary school days. On September 30, 1900 he was in Sigolsheim in Alsace in the Capuchin Order taken and received the religious name Bernardin Goebel and on June 1, 1906 he received in Mainz his ordination . He then took on a three-year post as a teacher at the Ordensgymnasium in Strasbourg . After a job in Koenigshoffen , he continued his studies at the Pontifical University in Rome and received his doctorate in theology ( Dr. theol. ) In 1912. In the period from 1918 to 1931 Goebel was a lecturer and from January 20, 1930 to May 19 1956 active as spiritual at the Collegium Borromaeum in Münster . In addition to his teaching activities, Goebel continued to devote himself to pastoral care and writing . His writings were published several times and translated into different languages. In 1960 he was able to celebrate his diamond jubilee and since then, like his brother in faith Heribert Jone, he has lived in the Stühlinger Capuchin fraternity. As a result of a serious fall from stairs in 1973, he was bedridden and died in the Advent season of the same year. He found his final resting place in the crypt of the Capuchin monastery in Stühlingen .
