Franz Salesius Krinninger ( February 5, 1844 in Neunkirchen - February 19, 1899 there ) was an Austrian composer and choirmaster . He acted as choirmaster of the Neunkirchen singing and orchestral association.

life and work

Franz Krinninger showed musical talent at an early age, but this was not encouraged by his parents. He attended secondary school in Wiener Neustadt and studied singing , violin and piano at the same time . He completed an apprenticeship in his father's grocery store and then commercial training in Vienna . In 1861 he became a member of the Neunkirchen singing and orchestra association. A longer trip took him to Germany and Italy. In 1865 he and his brother took over the father's business, but did not neglect his further musical training. Also in 1865 he took over the position of choir master in the Neunkirchner Gesang- und Orchesterverein for a few years.

From 1868 - as part of a second trip to Germany - he took private lessons in composition and instrumentation with the music teacher, composer and conductor Carl Reinecke in Leipzig for a few months . He composed a number of operas and singspiels, based on his own libretto, sacred and secular songs and ballads, piano pieces, a serenade, motets and male choirs. Some of his works were also performed in Vienna, for example the overture Die Zunftmeister von Nürnberg in the Musikverein and the singspiel Der Streit der Handwerker in 1917 in the Konzerthaus . He died at the age of 55.

His son Heinrich (1872–93) studied bassoon , horn , piano , organ and music theory at the Conservatory of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna. He was the theory student of Anton Bruckner and played in the Kuk Infantry Regiment Hoch- und Deutschmeister No. 4 under Carl Michael Ziehrer . He committed suicide.

His nephew Franz Krinninger (1882–1969) worked as a poet, his sister Sabine (1892–1972) was a painter.
