Franz Perret

Franz Perret (born May 18, 1904 in Schwerzenbach (ZH), authorized to reside in Mels ; † December 22, 1979 St. Gallen ) was a Swiss librarian and director of the St. Gallen monastery archives . He edited a number of document books .

Life

Perret's parents were Albert Carl Perret, bureau chief of the SBB - goods Expedition born and Berta Schibli. In 1934 he married Rita, daughter of the innkeeper and winemaker Oronzo Mazzotta, and had four children. The Perret family immigrated to Mels from Savoy in the 18th century .

Perret attended the monastery schools in Näfels and Stans . He then completed a law degree in Paris and Geneva with a licentiate degree . He never completed his dissertation on Roman law in Churrätia . Perret was interested in diplomacy and in 1936, as a private scholar, published an edition of early sources on the history of Unterrätiens . From 1940 he worked on the Bündner and from 1942 on the Liechtenstein document book (Swiss part). A work that he continued from 1946 until his death on the document book of the southern parts of the canton of St. Gallen.

In 1958 Perret became the state archivist and cantonal librarian of St. Gallen . In 1968 he took over the management of the monastery archives from Pastor Paul Staerkle and handed over the office to Werner Vogler in 1978 .

Perret published works on Pfäfers Abbey and the Sarganserland . He was the first to receive the Sarganserland Valley Community Culture Prize in 1965. After his death she had a memorial plaque put up for him at the abbey. Italy awarded him the Cavaliere Ufficiale of the Italian Order of Merit in 1968 .
