Franz Riegersperger

Franz Riegersperger (born October 28, 1920 in Dürrnfellern / Suché Vrbné , Czechoslovakia; † June 2015 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian painter and graphic artist who also worked as a writer .

Life

Franz Riegersperger attended elementary, secondary and commercial school in Salzburg. The Salzburg Festival , he was associated since his youth, when he and his friends in 1931 on the stage in front of the Salzburg Cathedral to children Every man could perform, a performance that even Max Reinhardt impressed. He played the demon Mammon in this performance; In 2004 he presented the golden costume he was wearing at the time to the Salzburg Museum .

In August 1940 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and after the end of the war he spent four years in Yugoslav captivity. In January 1949 he returned to Salzburg and worked as a clerk at the regional health insurance fund . Since July 14, 1952, he was married to his wife Gertrude.

Artistic work

He received lessons in freehand drawing from school councilor Friedrich Büchsner. Otherwise he is to be assessed as an autodidact . For his drawings he used the Bourdon tube technique , which he had come across due to a lack of material in his captivity. The first pictures were done in sepia , followed by black-and-white studies and finally those with colored reed pen drawings. He is also known for linocuts , with which he designed a photo wallpaper for the Hotel Elefant in Salzburg.

In addition, Riegerperger wrote prose texts, scripts for television, features and radio plays.

Riegersperger was on the board of the professional association of Austrian visual artists and also on the board of the Camerata Academica . He was also a member of the Salzburg Museum Association and the Salzburg City Association ; He contributed a large number of illustrations and articles to his magazine "Bastei (sheets of the Salzburg City Council for the preservation and care of buildings, culture and society)".
