Franz Sagmeister (born October 21, 1974 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ) is a former German bobsleigh athlete . For the pilot René Spies and more rarely for Matthias Höpfner and Christoph Langen , he was active as a pusher in the world class of bobsleigh for about half a decade.

Franz Sagmeister works for the Federal Police and was active for the BSC Winterberg . At the 2001 World Bobsleigh Championships in St. Moritz , he was sixth with pilot Spies in the two-man bobsleigh, and at the European Championships at Königssee they won the bronze medal behind Christoph Langen and Christian Reich's sledges . The 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , in which Sagmeister and Spies again finished sixth, were the highlight of his career . In the 2002/03 season , the duo won the season opener in Altenberg in the Bobsleigh World Cup and, with Spies, Kai Kaufmann and Jens Nohka, came second behind André Lange's bobsleigh in the four- person competition. In Cortina d'Ampezzo Spies / Sagmeister won again in the two-man and came third in the four-man bobsleigh. A third place followed in Calgary , in the overall ranking of the two-man bobsleigh, Spies finished second behind Pierre Lueders with his pushers , sixth with the large bob, and second in the combined ranking behind Lange. At the 2003 Bobsleigh World Championships in Lake Placid , Spies / Sagmeister won the bronze medal behind Lange and Lueders' bobsleigh.

In the 2003/04 season , the pair Spies / Sagmeister achieved second places in Altenberg and Igls . At the highlight of the season, the 2004 World Championships at Königssee, they missed a medal by about a second in fifth place. In 2004/05 Sagmeister and Spies achieved two third places in the two-man bobsleigh and one third place in the four-man bobsleigh. In Calgary they were again fifth in the two-man bobsleigh at the 2005 World Bobsleigh Championship . The two-tier ranking in Altenberg was also the European championship, in which Spies / Sagmeister won the silver medal behind Lange. He was unable to qualify for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Turin alongside Spies; Sagmeister had planned the end of his career in 2006 for professional reasons with the Federal Police anyway.

In 2001 and 2005, Sagmeister became German champions in the two-man bobsleigh alongside Spies, and in 2006 they became runner-up.
