Franz Schnopfhagen

Franz Schnopfhagen (born March 10, 1888 in St. Veit im Mühlkreis , † November 9, 1967 in Linz ) was an Austrian doctor and composer .

Live and act

Schnopfhagen was a son of Hans Schnopfhagen . He studied medicine at the Universities of Vienna and Innsbruck . In 1914 he was drafted into military service and was taken prisoner by Russia , from which he returned in 1921 and completed his medical studies.

From 1923 he was a community doctor in Altenfelden . On May 1, 1932, he joined the NSDAP (membership number 903973). In 1938 he moved from Altenfelden to Linz , where he lived with his family in an Aryanised house at 12 Scharitzerstraße. He was head of the student council for composers in the Reichsmusikkammer and acted as a municipal advisory board for music care and concerts.

Until his retirement in 1953, he worked in the health sector a. a. active as chief physician of the local health insurance fund Linz. In his function as director of the Upper Austrian Folk Song Works , he collected Landler and other folk dances . Schnopfhagen was u. a. Member of the Mühlviertel Artists Guild and the Innviertel Artists Guild .

Works as a composer

More than one hundred settings, including a string quartet, 2 sonatas, a chamber symphony and several German dances and numerous songs to texts by well-known writers.
