Franz Streitt
Franz Streitt ( Polish Franciszek Streitt ; born November 24, 1839 in Brody , Galicia , † December 29, 1890 in Munich ) was a Polish painter who worked in Munich.
Life
Franz Streitt graduated from secondary school in Lemberg in 1854 and studied at the technical university there . From 1856 to 1866 he studied painting at the Cracow Academy of Art under Władysław Łuszczkiewicz and Jan Matejko , then from 1867 to 1871 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Eduard von Engerth .
After completing his studies, he stayed in Krakow and painted historical pictures from the history of the Kingdom of Poland based on the example of his master Jan Matejko.
In 1871 he moved to Munich, where he founded a joint studio with Antoni Kozakiewicz and became a member of the Polish artist group with Józef Brandt and Alfred von Wierusz-Kowalski and the Munich Art Association . He went on study trips to Galicia and Hungary .
In Munich he mainly devoted himself to genre painting from the life of Galician farmers and gypsies. His works came to art collections in Germany and Austria, but also in Great Britain and the United States . Some pictures appeared in the Leipzig "Gartenlaube" in 1882 and 1886 .
Franz Streitt was married to the painter Maria Theresia Friedl.
