The frozen lake of Lake Constance in 1963 became an event of the century for the photographer as well. Werner Stuhler's shot of Thorbecke's Piper in the frozen Lindau harbor became known beyond the borders, just one of several landings and take-offs on the frozen lake. Many of his aerial photographs document the freezing of the lake as well as the melting of the ice cover. For six decades and in every season, Thorbecke photographed the Lake Constance region and the entire Alps , mostly as a pilot . He also documented the change here. In addition, he performed commissioned work for publishers, the press and the Federal Ministry of Transport (route of the motorways ). In total, his archive contained well over 100,000 photographs, most of which were taken in negative format 6 × 6 cm with a Rollei . Thorbecke was an important documentary photographer and representative of the object-related image design photo art, whose images are also scientifically processed.
