Franz Wagner (born September 23, 1911 , † December 8, 1974 in Vienna ) was an Austrian football player .

Player career

Wagner played football for the Vienna Cricket and Football Club until shortly before he was 20 , before he was active in the top Austrian league from 1931 to 1943 and from 1945 to 1949 for SK Rapid Wien . During this time he won the Austrian and German championships six times, as well as the Austrian and German club cups once. From 1943 to 1945 he played for LSV Markersdorf . He made his league debut for SK Rapid Wien on May 10, 1931 (16th matchday) in a 4: 3 win at home against Austria Wien . He scored his only point goal on September 25, 1932 (5th matchday) in a 4-1 win in the away game against Wacker Vienna . At international club level, he was with the team in games for the Mitropa Cup in 1934 and 1935 six times.

National team

From 1933 to 1936 he was used 18 times in the Austrian national team. He was part of the squad at the World Cup in Italy in 1934 , where he was used in four tournament games and was defeated 2: 3 in the game for third place in Germany's selection .

From 1938 to 1942 he played three international matches for the German national team. He made his debut on September 25, 1938 in Bucharest in a 4-1 victory over the Romanian national team . Four years later it came on January 18, 1942 in Agram , in the 2-0 victory over the Croatian national team , and on February 1, 1942 in Vienna , in the 2-1 defeat against the Swiss national team.

He was part of the squad of the German national team, which took part in the World Cup held in France from June 4 to 19, 1938 , but was not used. His team was also eliminated from the tournament in the round of 16 or in the replay that had become necessary and lost 4-2 to Switzerland.

Coaching career

After his active career, he remained loyal to SK Rapid Wien as a junior coach and in the 1955/56 season also took on the support of the combat team for a few months, which meant that he had a share in the championship title. At the end of the 1950s he coached the youth of the Vienna AC .
