Franz Weinkauff

Franz Weinkauff (born May 24, 1823 in Kreuznach , † March 11, 1892 in Cologne ) was a German teacher and writer .

Life

Born as the son of a brewery and distillery owner, Weinkauff studied Protestant theology in Bonn after attending the Kreuznach high school and later classical philology and history in Heidelberg and Jena . During his studies in 1844 he became a member of the Fridericia Bonn fraternity . In Jena he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . After completing his studies, he worked as a teacher at a private school and from 1855/56 at the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Cologne, first as a school-leaving candidate, from 1860 as a regular teacher, from 1868 as the fourth senior teacher. Due to health problems, he retired in 1871 and from then on lived as a private scholar . He was wealthy and sponsored the school libraries in Kreuznach and Cologne as well as the Cologne city library . His collection is now in the University and City Library of Cologne .

He wrote articles in the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie .
