Franz Weinmann

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franz Weinmann (born January 3, 1909 in Deilingen ; † November 15, 1996 in Wittichen Monastery ) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman who was imprisoned in the Dachau concentration camp from 1942 to 1945 .

Live and act

Weinmann was born in 1909 in the Swabian town of Deilingen, grew up in Hinterzarten , attended grammar school in Freiburg and studied Catholic theology in Freiburg and Innsbruck . In 1933 he was ordained a priest in the seminary of St. Peter. Even as a chaplain in Mannheim , he was particularly dedicated to youth work and was known for his courageous and fearless actions.

That soon became his undoing, because he was arrested in Mannheim in solitary confinement , as he did not mince words to the National Socialists either. Then followed (after several intermediate stops: Bruchsal , Stuttgart , Ulm , Ingolstadt ) another three years of concentration camp in the pastor's block of the notorious Dachau concentration camp, where it was only liberated in 1945 when the Third Reich collapsed .

Weinmann worked from April 1945 to 1957 in the parish of Heiligenzell near Lahr, from 1957 to 1979 he was pastor and dean in Hausach im Kinzigtal, from 1979 until his death in 1996 he was a pensioner in Schenkenzell / Wittichen Monastery.
