Origin and family

Franz Wilhelm von Wolff-Metternich came from the Westphalian noble family Wolff-Metternich . He was the son of Leopold von Wolff called Metternich (1661–1719, princely Paderborn chief stable master and secret councilor ) and his wife Anna Antonetta Helena von der Horst. His twin brother August Wilhelm was provost of the cathedral. His uncle Franz Arnold von Wolff-Metternich was prince-bishop in Münster and Paderborn. His grandchild Friedrich Wilhelm later also became canon in Münster. Franz Wilhelm was the step-nephew of the cathedral provost and auxiliary bishop Wilhelm Hermann von Wolff-Metternich .

Act

After the death of Canon Franz Heinrich Christian von Galen on February 14, 1713, Franz Wilhelm came to the cathedral chapter in Münster through papal commission . Here he was sworn up on April 26, 1713 . Due to his marriage to Sophia Brigitta Elisabeth von der Asseburg zu Hinnenburg, he had to do without his prebend. This went to Johann Matthias von Westerholt in 1723 . Franz Wilhelm took over the family estates. At times he was chamberlain to the Elector of Cologne and Privy Councilor in Paderborn.
