His father Franz Wilhelm married Ursula Helena von Plettenberg zu Lenhausen (* 1654, † 1720), a sister of Prince-Bishop Friedrich Christian von Plettenberg , on July 12, 1671 . He had four sisters: Anna Maria, (* 1672, ∞ Franz Anton von Landsberg ), Francelina (* 1680, ∞ Franz Christoph von Hörde zu Störmede), Elisabeth Antonetta († 1715, Canon in Nottuln) and Maria Theresia († 1727, Canon lady in Nottuln, ∞ Franz Otto von Weichs). His brother Wilhelm Goswin Anton (* 1678, † 1710) was hereditary treasurer, Friedrich Christian (* 1689, † 1748) cathedral dean in Münster and Wilhelm Ferdinand (* 1690, † 1769) heir treasurer and Droste in the office of Vechta.

In 1703 Franz Heinrich received a cathedral priest in Münster through the papal commission , who had become free through the death of Canon Heinrich Wilhelm von Wendt . The revolt took place on April 16, 1703. On July 27, 1706 Franz Heinrich received the minor ordinations and became a subdeacon . In that year a new prince-bishop was elected in Münster . In this election, Franz Heinrich took the side of the Osnabrück bishop . This was inferior to Franz Arnold von Wolff-Metternich . However, his election was only made possible by bribing some canons.
