Franz Anton von Landsberg
Franz Anton Freiherr von Landsberg ( April 5, 1656 - August 18, 1727 in Schloss Wocklum ) from the noble family of the Lords of Landsberg was a general and (in 1713) the governor of the city of Münster .
Life
His parents were the Electoral Cologne major general and Westphalian Landdrost Daniel Dietrich von Landsberg zu Erwitte (1618–1683) and Jutta Antonetta Freiin von der Leyen (1633–1704), the third wife of the major general. He was the eldest of a group of seven children with Freiin von der Leyen . His brothers were Franz Kaspar Ferdinand von Landsberg zu Erwitte , Franz Dietrich Joseph von Landsberg zu Erwitte , Franz Ferdinand von Landsberg zu Erwitte , Franz Johann von Landsberg zu Erwitte and Franz Ludolf von Landsberg zu Erwitte . The son Ferdinand Franz comes from his father's first marriage to Anna Margarethe Reichsfreiin Raitz zu Frentz and Kendenich . The mother died in childbed.
Little is known about his childhood. Around 1665 von Landsberg received private lessons with two of his brothers in Hildesheim , around 1668/69 they were taught by a canon in the monastery in Meschede . From 1670 to 1673 the three brothers attended the Jesuit high school in Mainz .
He then joined his father's infantry regiment and in December 1674 reached the rank of ensign . At the beginning of his Grand Tour on August 3, 1675, he was already a lieutenant . After his return in June 1678 he was promoted to captain and company commander. He had a great career ahead of him: as a major in the guards regiment , he took part in the march against Liège in 1684 and in the Turkish war in 1685. His career continued to go uphill: Since 1702 fights of Landsberg in the War of Spanish Succession under Dutch Sold as a Brigadier and Major General until his regiment in 1712 in French captivity came. Landsberg returned to his homeland and took over the supreme command of the Münster army and in 1713 also the office of governor of the city of Münster. In 1719 he was promoted to lieutenant general. He held this command until his death.
At the age of forty, in February 1696, he married Anna Maria Freiin von Galen (1676–1734). She was the daughter of the first treasurer Franz Wilhelm Freiherr von Galen zu Assen and Dincklage and Ursula Helena von Plettenberg zu Lenhausen . Franz Anton married into the best families in the Münsterland . His wife was related to the Prince-Bishop Christoph Bernhard von Galen (ruled 1650–1678) and the ruling Prince-Bishop Friedrich Christian von Plettenberg (ruled 1688–1706).
The marriage resulted in a daughter, Antonetta Helena (1697–1739), who married Baron Caspar Heinrich Matthias von Korff called Schmising zu Tatenhausen as early as 1712 .
Franz Anton's wife took care of the financial affairs at Schloss Wocklum , the residence of the baron. There she had construction work carried out in the years 1698–1701 and 1708–1712. She also acquired goods in Lette and Osthoff and had mansions built there.
Franz Anton Freiherr von Landsberg died on August 18, 1727 at the age of 71 at Haus Wocklum of a breast disease.
