Franz Dietrich Joseph von Landsberg zu Erwitte (born August 21, 1659, presumably in Arnsberg , † August 25, 1727 in Hildesheim ) from the noble family of the Lords of Landsberg was canon of various cathedral churches and a politician in the Hildesheim monastery .

Life

His father was Daniel Dietrich von Landsberg zu Erwitte . The mother was Jutta Antonetta von und zu Leyen and Bongard . His brother Franz Johann (1660–1726) was canon in Münster and Osnabrück, Franz Kaspar (1670–1728, canon and high-ranking official in the Duchy of Westphalia ), Franz Anton (1656–1727, general and governor), Franz Ferdinand (1657–1726 , Canon in Münster), Franz Ludolf (1668–1723, Canon in Münster). His half-brother Ferdinand Franz (1643–1682) was canon in Münster, Osnabrück and Hildesheim. Landsberg initially received private tuition in Hildesheim before he received further training in 1668/69 in the Meschede monastery and between 1670 and 1672 in the Jesuit high school in Mainz . In 1670 he received a cathedral test in Osnabrück . Landsberg studied in Marburg between 1676 and 1678 . There he devoted himself primarily to the study of languages. Then he moved to the University of Mainz . In 1680 he also received a cathedral praise in Hildesheim. In the same year he became Sacellan in Laer . A year later, Landsberg was ordained a subdeacon . Since then he has resided in Hildesheim. In 1698 he was appointed Canonicus a latere in Osnabrück.

From 1701 he was President of the Hildesheim Monastery government under Prince-Bishop Jobst Edmund von Brabeck . He was also archdeacon of Nettlingen from 1703 and provost of the cathedral in Hildesheim from 1704 . Landsberg was appointed governor of the Hildesheim monastery and secret councilor under Joseph Clemens von Bayern in 1716. He was also Domsenior in Osnabrück. He died in the princely chancellery in Hildesheim and was buried in the St. Barbara chapel of the cathedral.

He had probably acquired the eight precious Artemisia tapestries in Bonn from Archbishop Elector Joseph Clemens , which he bequeathed to the cathedral in his will (today in the cathedral museum ).
