Friedrich Christian von Galen zu Assen

Friedrich Christian von Galen zu Assen (born March 27, 1689 in Dinklage , † February 15, 1748 in Münster ) was a Catholic priest and cathedral dean in the Principality of Münster .

Life

Origin and family

Friedrich Christian grew up with his siblings in the ancient Westphalian noble family von Galen , which in the 16th century partially sympathized with the Reformation and later became Catholic again. His father Franz Wilhelm married Ursula Helena von Plettenberg zu Lenhausen (* 1654, † 1720), a sister of  Prince-Bishop Friedrich Christian von Plettenberg , on July 12, 1671 . He had four sisters: Anna Maria, (* 1672, ∞  Franz Anton von Landsberg ), Francelina (* 1680, ∞ Franz Christoph von Hörde zu Störmede), Elisabeth Antonetta († 1715, Canon in Nottuln) and Maria Theresia († 1727, Canon lady in Nottuln, ∞ Franz Otto von Weichs). His brother Wilhelm Goswin Anton (* 1678, † 1710) was hereditary treasurer, Franz Heinrich Christian (* 1679, † 1712, canon in Münster and Worms) and Wilhelm Ferdinand also heir treasurer and Droste in the office of Vechta. 

Career and work

With the receipt of the tonsure on August 4, 1697, Friedrich Christian was ordained for a clerical office and received a family praise the next day in Minden after his Wilhelm Goswin Anton had renounced . In 1703 the cathedral chapter nominated him for a cathedral priest in Münster. He received the minor orders in July 1706 and received a subdiaconate. From February 1, 1709 to mid-March 1710, he attended the Archigymnasium in Rome. In 1712 the revival took place in front of the Osnabrück cathedral chapter (revocation board 45). Friedrich Christian owned prebends in Worms (1712), Osnabrück (1706), Paderborn (1728, 1748 given to his nephew Franz Friedrich Wilhelm von Fürstenberg due to illness) and Hildesheim (1728). In 1727 Friedrich Christian became the clergyman father and apostolic syndic of the Capuchin Convention in Münster. He was provost of St. Viktor in Dülmen and received the Archdiakonat Bocholt. On February 19, 1732 he became the cathedral chapter for Domdechanten selected. The bishop confirmed this election on February 29th. He was ordained a priest on January 25, 1733 .

Others

In the years 1721 to 1729 he had the Friedrichsburg built on the outskirts of the city of Münster by the builder Gottfried Laurenz Pictorius . He used this as his country residence. His grave is in the St. Maximus chapel of the cathedral in Münster .
