Wilhelm Hermann Ignaz Ferdinand Baron von Wolff called Metternich zu Gracht (* July 28, 1665 , † October 28, 1722 in Cologne ) was provost and auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Münster .

The father was Degenhard Adolf von Wolff called Metternich zur Gracht. This was a brother of Prince Bishop Hermann Werner von Wolff-Metternich zur Gracht . The mother was Margaretha Alexandrina von Hoensbrock. He was a half-brother of Prince-Bishop Franz Arnold von Wolff-Metternich zur Gracht .

Life

Wilhelm Hermann Ignatz Wolff-Metternich zur Gracht also entered the clergy and received the tonsure in 1674 . From 1686 he held a canon position in Paderborn . He studied in Siena in 1689 . In 1694 he got a canon position at Münster Cathedral . In Paderborn he was before 1699 Dom thesaurar . From 1697 he was also canon in Speyer and from 1706 in Hildesheim . He received minor orders in 1702, and a short time later he was ordained a deacon .

In 1712 he was elected provost of the cathedral in Münster. His brother Prince-Bishop Franz Arnold made him a secret council and district president. In the same year he became cathedral dean in Paderborn. He was also provost of the Busdorf Collegiate Foundation .

After the death of his brother he worked in the diocese of Paderborn between 1718 and 1719 as administrator apostolicus in spiritualibus . The background was that the successor Clemens August von Bayern had not yet reached the necessary canonical age . From 1720 he was auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Münster and titular bishop of Ionopolis . Along with numerous other priests, he consecrated Pantaleon Bruns as auxiliary bishop in Paderborn in 1721.

During this time he also led a lawsuit that involved the family entailment commission. Between him and the canon Jobst Gottfried Adrian von Droste there was a conflict over the archdeaconate Warendorf . In 1718, the cathedral chapter decided in favor of Wolff-Metternich.

Before his death, Wilhelm Hermann Ignatz Wolff-Metternich decided on the canal that no funeral sermon should be given for him and no epitaph should be made.
