In 1841 he went on a study trip to Florence , from 1853 to 1855 he again worked in Italy, where he mainly dealt with landscape paintings from the Campagna Romana . From 1855 he lived in Vienna  and Baden and in 1861 became a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus . Initially working as a copper engraver, from 1850 onwards he mainly devoted himself to painting. He created portraits, paintings, watercolors and frescoes in the style of the Nazarenes , often with religious motifs.
