Franz Xaver Spörr

Franz Xaver Spörr (born December 3, 1821 in Hötting , † September 22, 1882 in Telfs ) was an Austrian Nazarene church painter and fresco artist.

Born the son of a gardener, Spörr studied since May 11, 1857 in the class of antiquities at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich . After graduation, he devoted himself to religious art.

From 1860 to 1874, Spörr worked with Franz Plattner and Max Gehri on the wall and ceiling paintings in the parish church of the Holy Cross in Zirl and together with Albrecht Steiner von Felsburg and Heinrich Kluibenschedl on the wall paintings in the parish church of Proveis . Together with Clemens Raffeiner, Franz Hellweger and Dominikus Trenkwalder , he worked on the renovation of the Pill parish church .

In 1872 Spörr created images of saints in the style of Russian Orthodox icons for the St. Bartholomew and Ulrich Church in Aberstückl in the municipality of Sarntal . He also designed the prayer room of the Johanneum in Bozen .

Spörr designed glass windows in the late Gothic style for the Tyrolean stained glass and mosaic institute in Innsbruck .
