Franz Xaver von Pausinger (born February 10, 1839 in Salzburg , † April 7, 1915 in Salzburg) was an Austrian landscape and animal painter from the von Pausinger family .

childhood and education

Franz Xaver von Pausinger spent his childhood at Frein Castle in Frankenburg am Hausruck . He attended elementary school there and later the secondary school in Salzburg. He was trained as an academic painter at the academies in Vienna, Karlsruhe and with Rudolf Koller in Zurich .

Landscape and animal painting

He became known as a draftsman when in 1881 he accompanied Crown Prince Rudolf , who was himself a recognized ornithologist , on his trip to the Orient. He also worked as an illustrator in Vienna and Munich. He had his apartment and a studio in Schloss Elsenheim in Salzburg .

family

On June 7, 1870, Franz married the pharmacist's daughter Rosalia (Rosalie) Amalia Aloisia Hinterhuber (1843–1935) in the parish church of St. Andrä in Salzburg. With her he had four daughters: Helene (1871–1956), Paula (1876–1969), Rosalia “Lili” (1882–1980) and Elise “Lisl” (1888–1968). He is buried in an honorary grave at the Salzburg municipal cemetery .

Honors and bequests

In 1915 was in Salzburg the Pausingerstraße and in 1920 in Vienna-was Penzing (14th District), the Pausingergasse named after him. Major parts of his estate are in the possession of the Salzburg Museum , a bundle of drawings on the trip to the Orient is in the picture archive and graphic collection of the Austrian National Library.
