The FrauenRat NRW is an amalgamation of around 70 women's associations and women's working groups from mixed associations at the level of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia ; he represents around 4 million women from different social areas. The FrauenRat NRW eV is a non-profit registered association , it is non-partisan and non- denominational according to its statutes .
In accordance with this claim, the member associations include trade union and party- affiliated organizations, denominational and non-denominational professional associations , social entitlement and social performance associations , sports associations , associations from the fields of church and culture as well as ideational support associations.
Any association which, according to its statutes, is dedicated to “specific women's work” can become a member. Mixed associations must have at least 70% women.
Goals and way of working
The association wants to "support and promote the concerns of women in all areas of life - in family, work and society". He actively interferes in women's politics through public relations work ( resolutions , media presence and specialist conferences on topics relevant to women) . He makes the results of his substantive work available to the state politicians, and he submits demands of national importance to the parliamentary groups , the federal government and the German Women's Council .
As an umbrella organization, it has also set itself the task of networking its member associations and pooling the interests of its members at state level.

history
The origins of the association go back to 1969 , when representatives of the German Women's Ring , the Catholic German Women's Association , Evangelical Women's Work in the Rhineland and the Jewish Women's Association met with the aim of "organizing a loose union of women's groups while maintaining their independence and respect for one's own work goals ”. In 1970 then took place with the participation of 40 representatives of associations, already founded the association "Women's Council North Rhine-Westphalia - State Association of women's associations and women's groups of mixed associations".
Until 2011 the association was called "FrauenRat NW". After the abbreviation NRW (officially: NW) for "North Rhine-Westphalia" became generally accepted, it was renamed "FrauenRat NRW".
