Måns Fredrik Espmark (born January 29, 1970 in Ekerö ) is a Swedish former football player . The defender played for AIK in the Allsvenskan before ending his career early due to an injury. He is a nephew of the writer Kjell Espmark , who temporarily headed the Svenska Academies .

Career

Espmark started playing football in the youth department of Ekerö IK . In 1980 he moved to the youth division of the IF Brommapojkarna club, which is known for its youth work . Here he went through the individual youth teams and moved up in the late 1980s in the squad of the competition team competing in the second highest division. After doing his military service, he rose in the 199 season to team captain . AIK coach Tommy Söderberg signed him for the first division team during the season .

When Espmark started his service at AIK at the beginning of 1994, Hans Backe was now responsible as a coach for looking after the team. Due to the higher training intensity compared to his previous game station, Espmark did not immediately make the connection with his new club and initially came as a substitute for his first appearances in the Swedish elite series. He also had some unfortunate scenes during the season when he caused several penalties and saw the red card in the game against IFK Göteborg . In the 1995 season things went better for him when Erik Hamrén was put on the side as the new coach and the two formed a coaching duo. He established himself as a full- back on left-back at the side of Johan Mjällby , Gary Sundgren , Magnus Hedman and Dick Lidman in the club's main lineup. By the end of the season, which the club finished eighth in the table, he was in 21 of the 26 season games on the field. After the end of the season he also played in the 10-0 second round win against Syrianska FC in the Svenska Cup .

After Espmark repeatedly had problems with his groin, he was examined more closely in late autumn after the end of the season. It was found that the hip joint was fatigued on the one hand due to congenital hip damage and on the other hand due to the high stress. So he had to end his active career and was only a spectator when the team won the title with a goal by Pascal Simpson at the end of the cup competition in May of the following year after a 1-0 final victory over Malmö FF . After the end of his career, he switched to the advertising industry.
