Freiroda is located in the Leipzig lowland bay on the north-western edge of Leipzig . Leipzig / Halle Airport is located in the north and west of the town . In the south, Freiroda is bounded by the federal motorway 14 .

history

Until 1815 Freiroda belonged to the Electoral Saxon office of Delitzsch . As a result of the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , the place became part of Prussia and was assigned to the Delitzsch district in the Merseburg administrative district of the province of Saxony in 1816, to which it belonged until 1952. In the course of the district reform in the GDR in 1952, Freiroda was assigned to the newly tailored Delitzsch district in the Leipzig district, which was added to the Delitzsch district in 1994 .

On December 1, 1973 Gerbisdorf was incorporated into Freiroda. In 1994 Freiroda, Radefeld and Wolteritz were merged to form the new municipality of Radefeld . Since January 1, 1999, the municipality of Radefeld has belonged to the town of Schkeuditz, which was moved to the district of Delitzsch, making Freiroda a district of the town since then.

Freiroda is located directly northeast of the Schkeuditzer Kreuz , the intersection of the A 9 (Berlin - Munich) with the A 14 (Dresden - Magdeburg). The Freiroda location is bordered in the south by the A 14 with the motorway junction 21 Schkeuditz . The northern runway of Leipzig-Halle Airport adjoins the location to the north and west.

Between 1929 and 1970 Freiroda had a stop at the Delitzscher Kleinbahn .
