Peace of Adrianople (1713)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the Peace of Adrianople on 16./27. June 1713 the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire Ahmed III. the 1711 between Grand Vizier Baltacı Mehmet Pasha and the Russian Tsar Peter I closed Treaty of the Pruth .

The Swedish King Charles XII. who had been in the Ottoman Empire since 1709 and was largely responsible for the sultan's declaration of war on the tsar in 1710, had already tried in 1711 to prevent the Grand Vizier from accepting the Russian peace offer. The Sultan was also against the premature peace agreement. In Constantinople , the messenger who brought the news of peace was beheaded, the grand vizier who had signed it was dropped. However, the war was not resumed. The headstrong Swedish king was captured by the Ottomans on February 12, 1713. One of the main reasons for the Ottoman-Russian tensions was eliminated. Sultan Ahmed confirmed on 16./27. June 1713 the Peace of the Prut for 25 years.
