Surrenders
The peace of Stockholm of January 21st jul. / February 1, 1720 greg. was a partial peace in the Great Northern War . He ended the war between Prussia and Sweden . Prussia received Stettin , Western Pomerania to the Peene and the islands of Usedom and Wollin in exchange for two million thalers . These areas had been under Prussian occupation since 1713 - with an interruption in 1715 for Usedom. For Prussia, this peace meant a further step towards becoming a major German power , while for Sweden it was another setback. Sweden's loss of power on the Baltic Sea continued. To commemorate the acquisition of Szczecin and southern Western Pomerania, Friedrich Wilhelm I had a Latin inscription, not entirely ironic, affixed to the newly built Berliner Tor in Stettin, according to which he called the "Duchy of Stettin ... by lawful contracts and for a reasonable price up to to the Peene bought, acquired and regained for himself ”.
