Contract negotiations

North German theater of war between 1711 and 1715

On November 11, 1714, Prussia and Hanover reached an agreement on the expulsion of Sweden from the imperial territory. This agreement was to be followed by a formal contract for which a first draft was handed over on December 27, 1714 by the Hanoverian resident war councilor JW Heusch (born around 1652) in Berlin. The signing was a long time coming, as Hanover had previously wanted to come to an agreement with Denmark on Bremen. In addition, it was disputed to what extent Prussia had to be used to compensate Gottorf and how detailed the Hanoverian military aid should be included in the contract.

The alliance treaty between Hanover and Prussia, directed against Sweden, included a division of the Swedish provinces in northern Germany. At the victorious end of the war, Hanover should include the duchies of Bremen and Verden , Prussia, Western Pomerania with Stettin to the River Peene , the cities of Demmin , Anklam and Wolgast, and the islands of Usedom and Wollin . For a consultation on the future of Swedish provinces had been hit on the Empire floor by the peace treaties 1719 / 1720 has been confirmed. The agreement, which stipulated not only territorial regulations but also military assistance against Sweden, was important for Hanover with regard to the diplomatic complications with Denmark over the acquisition of Bremen.
