history

The wooden church was built from 2003 to 2004 based on a design and on the initiative of the innkeeper Hermann Hinterhölzl from Heinrich-Kiener-Haus. Archbishop Alois Kothgasser consecrated the church on September 5, 2004 to the saint and patron saint of the woodcutters Vincent of Valencia . The church also contains a relic of Saint Edith Stein .

The footpath from Bischofshofen over the Hofersattel to the church was designed as a themed path for the " peacemakers " (peace path ) . The Friedenskirche is located on the St. Rupert pilgrimage route Sankt Gilgen - Bischofshofen , which leads down via the Hörndl chapel to the St. Rupert mission house (route 3, stage 17).

Architecture and equipment

This church is symbolically designed down to the smallest detail of shape and dimensions .

  • Wood

The wood symbolizes God's creation and was used from the immediate vicinity!
The magnificent 360 ° view can roam our gaze into the distance, showing us a touch of creativity of God in his creation - and then return to the empty cross on the rooftop: empty because Jesus Christ resurrected is - this is God's grace to visible to us humans. The growth and becoming in time is visible
through the annual rings !
At the same time, however, it also expresses the transience of a person (see the comparison to the breath in Isa 58:13  EU

  • Layout

The wooden church has the plan of an equilateral cross and was clad with shingles between the wooden columns. In the middle of the church has a drawn-in, irregular octagonal roof turret with a cross-shaped gable roof analogous to the nave!

  • Construction height

It is nine meters from the floor to the top of the tower and is reminiscent of the human process in the womb.

  • Total length and width of the church

This is seven meters each and reminds of the divine fullness and perfection.

  • Number of angles

The twelve tribes of Israel were carved into the 12 pillars on the outside . Inside the 12 walls were marked with the Twelve Apostles !
The twelve apostles , who were installed as the first preachers of the gospel by the foundation of Jesus Christ, all risked their lives preaching the truth of the gospel ( mission command in Mt 28
: 16-20  EU .

  • altar

The altar consists of a granite slab weighing 365 kg (a year has 365 days), which rests on three granite boulders (God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit)!
In the old covenant , because of one's own sins, sacrifices to the “tent of encounter” had to be used, which were then offered by a priest on the altar to cover sins.
Only once a year the high priest was allowed to enter the Holy of Holies after special purification ceremonies at the risk of his life, in order to sacrifice there on behalf of the sins of the entire people.
In the New Covenant , Jesus Christ as Messiah was punished by the Father on
behalf of all the sins of all humanity and all time (also Heb 9:12  EU ).

  • Seating

The seating was created from five different types of wood, symbolizing the inhabitants of the five continents!
The gospel is of course relevant for all God's creatures and should lead to as many children of God as possible.

  • God's relevance

In the roof turret hangs a bell weighing 1,040 kg, which was financed by the municipality of Anthering !
The sound of the bell is intended to remind us humans that God is relevant in our daily lives.

  • accessibility

In the old covenant, only Israelites were allowed to enter the tent of meeting. In the new covenant, Christians gathered everywhere!
So this church is always open to everyone.
